Brrrr! It’s getting chilly

Spare a thought for your outdoor coffee machine. As temperatures drop it’s important to
take extra care to make sure you protect your machine from the damage that ice can cause!
So here are our top tips for keeping your coffee machine toasty this winter!

wrap it up

The easiest way to help protect your coffee machine is to cover it up overnight and when you're not using it to trap some of that heat in! Blankets & boiler jackets are a great option!

give it some space

If all your insulation doesn't work the biggest problem will be the water in the boiler expanding as it begins to freeze. To minimise this, when you have turned off the machine for the night, let some steam off & once the pressure has dropped leave the steam arm and hot water taps open to stop the pressure building up in the pipes

remove your container

If you have a water container for your water supply either bring it inside or empty it out at the end of the day! Just make sure to turn your pump off first!

pumps, pipes and filters

These can be as susceptible to freezing as your machine, if not more so. Wrapping some insulation around your pipe pumps and filter can save a slow soggy start to the day! The sleeve of an old jacket can make great insulation for a filter!

pop the heating on

You don’t need to make it super warm, just keep the space above freezing! A small space heater or a reptile heat mat that can be slid under the machine can make sure that the water will never get below freezing.

don’t forget the staff

It's all well and good keeping all your equipment cozy but don’t forget about your Baristas! So make sure that they are wrapped up warm and snug (there is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes!)
