Colombia Gacheta

From Gacheta-Junin Community, Cudinamarca
This Colombian Single origin comes from the Gacheta villages to the east of the Colombian capital, Bogota.

This coffee is amazing, and so are the people of the Gacheta-Junin community.  The villages in this region have often been overlooked by tourism and industry along with the benefits and opportunities that this brings, so it’s great that we can support them by buying their coffee and ensuring a good price.  It is a community of multiple smallholdings, who work together forming a coffee association of fifty farmers that is committed to excellent coffee.

The river that divides the community means that a donkey must carry the load (‘carga’) down to the water then it is transferred onto a  tray and pulley system to continue its journey towards the road where it can be collected and transported to the mill before export (see vidoe below).

Furthermore, we plan to commit long-term to buying every year, and investing in this community to improve coffee and livelihoods for the future.

The coffee has notes of honey sweetness, and a hint of lemon sharpness. Oh so good!

This is how you get coffee sacks form one side of the river to another in rural Colombia (alternatively it’s how you lose our roaster and head bean into a ferocious river never to be seen again!)
