Remember to stay hydrated – WATER DECAF IS BACK

Water Decaf is BACK!

After what has been a much longer than anticipated wait, we have our water processed decaf back!

Back in January, the UK coffee industry as a whole had a huge shortage of high quality water processed decaf. This was due to a few reasons, the main ones being:

  1. Higher Demand
More and more people are now choosing to drink decaf, a lot of this comes from a greater awareness that not all decaf is bad, that if the beans are processed without the harsh chemicals, then decaf coffee can actually taste great! It’s always worth pointing out that both of our decafs are processed in the good ways.
  2.  Shortage in Supply
It’s been well documented about the drop in coffee supplies around the world, due to crop failures, global warming or coffee farmers opting for more profitable uses of their farms. This has lead to a higher demand in the caffeinated coffee that has been grown and less has been sent to the processing plants to be decaffeinated.

There are of course many other factors at play, (To the point where the BBC released an in depth report of the issue)  but the end result has been that in January there was no decaf left in the UK for us to buy.

So what to do?

It’s no secret that we’ve always felt that the decaf in someways let us down in our farm-direct model. Whilst it was fully traceable, it was never truly direct trade. So we took this opportunity to revisit having our own coffee decaffeinated, previously an option unavailable to us due to the volume of coffee we would have to send to go through the decaffeination process.

But that’s what we have now done, working with our friend Athos from the Vira Mao farm in Brazil. It’s taken longer than we maybe would have liked, but we now have a delicious farm direct decaf that supports a fantastic family-run farm, and perhaps more importantly to you our customers still tastes absolutely fantastic.

While the Swiss Water Decaf was very popular, and rightly so, we are confident that our new Brazilian Water Decaf will be able to hit the spot that the Swiss Water Decaf perhaps never could. Being processed with naturally occurring solutions as well as being directly sourced through a farm we have been investing in since 2010
